Biotropin® (Canada) and Jintropin (China) are not FDA Approved and so are Illegal On March 12, 2007 Sylvester Stallone was reported by the Reuters News Agency to have been (allegedly) arrested for importing an illegal drug – HGH (Jintropin in this case) – into Australia. Stallone apparently had 57 bottles of the Jintropin in his possession and was using it in attempt to obtain the body he had in the original Rocky© movie.
Please know that Jintropin and the Canadian Biotropin are both illegal substances especially for transport across international borders. These are NOT FDA approved and have no FDA NDC numbers. Do not import or attempt to import these substances for resale unless you want to spend time in a federal penitentiary.
I. Testosterone
Remember, this is a controlled substance (DEA) and get a DRE (digital rectal exam) and PSA (prostate specific antigen) before starting and annually thereafter2441.
Diagnosis Hypogonadism is diagnosed easily when the usual signs and symptoms of androgen deficiency are present, or when the patient has a history of a predisposing condition such as mumps, orchitis, orchiectomy, irradiation to the pelvis or head, or possible trauma to the pituitary. Conversely, the diagnosis can be more difficult in patients at an older age with less specific symptoms or an unremarkable clinical history2442 -- so document symptoms and history (see History below).
The literature advises treatment should be initiated when, in symptomatic men, levels of Free Testosterone are < 52 pg/ml or Total Testosterone levels are < 231 ng/dl2443 (but your particular lab levels may vary dramatically according to the tests and equipment they use, so symptoms and history still may be more important). More importantly the Endocrine Society, through the JCEM (Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism) and their guidelines2444: “Testosterone Therapy in Adult Men with Androgen Deficiency Syndromes: An Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline” which advise no set levels (though you should check both a free and total testosterone level) but only treating according to symptoms such as the following:
TABLE 1A2445. Symptoms and signs suggestive of androgen deficiency in MEN q Incomplete sexual development, eunuchoidism, aspermia q Reduced sexual desire (libido) and activity
q Decreased spontaneous erections
q Breast discomfort, gynecomastia
q Loss of body (axillary and pubic) hair, reduced shaving q Very small or shrinking testes (especially < 5 mL) q Inability to father children, low or zero sperm counts q Height loss, low-trauma fracture, low bone mineral density q Reduced muscle bulk and strength
q Hot flushes, sweats
TABLE 1B2446. Other symptoms and signs associated with androgen deficiency in MEN that are less specific than those in Table 1A q Decreased energy, motivation, initiative, aggressiveness, self-confidence q Feeling sad or blue, depressed mood, dysthymia
q Poor concentration and memory
q Sleep disturbance, increased sleepiness
q Mild anemia (normochromic, normocytic, in the female range) q Increased body fat, body mass index
q Diminished physical or work performance
We advise the thorough reading of this document, also.
